Pathohistology of a basal cell carcinoma (HE-staining)
The basalioma (basal cell carcinoma, white skin cancer, basocellular epithelioma) is a malignant skin tumor that grows locally infiltrating and destructive but does NOT metastasize. Because of this the basalioma has been called semi-malignant in past times.
Under the light microscope fingerlike strands of tumor cell nests can be seen with fibrosing stroma reaction. The tumor cells present a slightly basophil cytoplasm and only some anomalies of the nuclei.
