The renal corpuscules are the most pominent histological structural unit of the kidney. They consist of a capillary ball of vessels (glomerulus) and a surrounding capsule (Bowman's capsule). In the renal corpuscules, ultrafiltration of the blood to primary urine takes place.
A renal corpuscule, together with a small renal tube (tubulus renalis), forms the smallest functional unit of the kidney, the nephron.(Author of the picture: Uwe Gille)
