In a green wood fracture the forces on the bone lead to an elastic deformation (bending) of the bone. If the force is too large, the corticalis may fracture on one side (the convex side). The opposite side appears deformed. The integrity of the periost stays intact.A common complication of the green wood fracture is the various healing on both sides of the bone. Since the callus only forms on one side, the bone might experience a refracture. However, permanent deformations of the bone are rare.
