The reason for peritoneal carcinomatosis is usually not a tumor of the peritoneum itself, but a malignant tumor of a different organ (usually in the abdomen).These tumors are mostly malignant tumors in an advanced stage with metastases (gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, ovaries). In some cases it is not possible to identify the primary tumor.
