Adenoviruses are a group of viruses that are non-enveloped, spherical, and 80-110 nm in size.
The genome of adenovirus is a linear, non-segmented double-stranded (ds) DNA that is between 26000 and 48000 bp containing 22-46 protein-coding genes. The genes are divided into the early phase (including E1, E2, E3, E4) and late phase (including L1, L2, L3, L4, and L5). Adenoviruses have a broad range of hosts and several adenoviral serotypes have been found, for example, there are 57 human adenovirus serotypes (HAdV-1 to 57) in seven species (Human adenovirus A to G).
Several features have made adenovirus an attractive vector in applications of research and gene therapy. These include 1) adenovirus can accommodate larger inserts, 2) adenovirus can be produced at high titers, 3) adenovirus can infect both dividing and non-dividing cells, 4) adenovirus do not integrate into cell genome, 5) adenovirus can mediate high transduction efficiency (almost 100%) in most cell types.
Creative Biogene is a biotechnology company that has years of experience working in the field of adenovirus to improve the adenoviral genome's utility in research and its therapeutic potential.
