IS HERNIA COMMON AFTER PREGNANCY?
Pregnancy and Normal delivery is a risk factor for a hernia. A hernia is a protrusion of an organ through the wall containing it. During pregnancy, there is increased abdominal volume and pressure. In normal delivery due to straining the pressure in the abdominal cavity increases tremendously. This can lead to herniation of abdominal organs. It can be either abdominal or groin hernia. The prevalence of hernia after normal delivery (postpartum) is 0.2%.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF HERNIA? HOW SHOULD I BE WATCHFUL?
A hernia usually presents with a bulge in the groin region or in the anterior part of the abdomen. It is most commonly a painless bulge, but if it is painful it is an emergency and you need to consult a surgeon immediately.
