Personal details: Prof. Ron van Domburg has been a researcher at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam for the past 36 years. His final project before retiring is to present the study „OPTICARE - Benefits of the OPTImal CArdiac REhabilitation trial: a randomized, controlled superiority trial of an expanded educational and behavioral intervention”.
Most of the patients who benefit from cardiac rehabilitation (CR) are those who have survived an acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The OPTICARE trial evaluates the impact of two advanced and extended CR programs that are designed to stimulate permanent adaption of a heart-healthy lifestyle, compared with current standard CR, in ACS patients.
