The pharyngeal tonsil consists of lymphatic tissue with multiple lymph follicles and is part of Waldyer's ring. As the lingual tonsil, it is unpaired. Its tissue is pervaded by multiple seromucous glands ending in shallow coves on the tonsillar surface. The latter is covered with the typical respiratory epithelium.
