A view of cortical fibers except the observer is looking at a cross-sectioned cell as though from anterior toward the posterior end of the cell; in this view the kd sections are seen on the left side of the ridge. Striated bands always lie closer to the epiplasm than the infraciliary lattice. TEM taken on 12/30/70 by R. Allen with Hitachi HU11A operating at 75kV. Neg. 33,750X. Bar = 0.1?m.
Biological Process: Plasma membrane organization, Cortical cytoskeleton organization
Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections prepared at approximately 75nm thickness. The negative was printed to paper and the image was scanned to Photoshop. This digitized image is available for qualitative analysis. There is a high resolution version of this image in the library (CIL:39310) which is available for quantitative analysis. Additional information available at (http://www5.pbrc.hawaii.edu/allen/).
