A grazing section through the dorsal surface of Euplotes showing cross sections of cilia in four of the sparsely ciliated kineties . A layer of mitochondria underlies the pellicle. A replication band of the DNA in the macronucleus is typical of hypotrichs. The basal bodies and cilia of one cirrus are found as well as the contractile vacuole. EM taken on 8/1/67 by R. Allen with Philips 200 operating at 60kV. Neg. 1,800X. Bar = 5?m. Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol, and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections prepared at approximately 75nm thickness. A print of the negative was scanned and processed in Photoshop. This image is best used for qualitative analysis. A high resolution version of this image is in the library (CIL:38868) is available for quantitative analysis. Additional information is available at (http://www5.pbrc.hawaii.edu/allen/).
