The detail of the three fibers supporting a basal body. A striated kinetodesmal fiber extends anteriorly from the basal body, a postciliary microtubular ribbon extends posteriorly and a transverse microtubular ribbon extends to the right of the anterior-posterior axis of the row of basal bodies. Basal bodies are composed of 9 triplet fibers each set at a tangent to the cylinder of the long axis of the bb. TEM taken on 3/4/69 by R. Allen with Philips 300 operating at 60kV. Neg. 39,900X. Bar = 0.25?m. A print of the negative was scanned and processed in Photoshop. This image is best used for qualitative analysis. A high resolution image (CIL:7663) is available for quantitative analysis. Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections prepared at approximately 75nm. Additional information available at (http://www5.pbrc.hawaii.edu/allen/).
